This 1-day course is designed to give delegates a complete overview of social media marketing. The course is delivered from our Cardiff venue and offers a balance of interactive presentation of social media fundamentals and open discussion. It is aimed at beginner-intermediate marketing and PR professionals and those who are managing social media accounts.
On completion of this 1-day course you will:
- Learn a new framework for developing a digital marketing strategy
- Discover how the major social networks work and how they differ to one another
- Gain confidence in managing your own social media activities
- Explore different approaches to using the social media platforms
- Encounter new tools for creating, monitoring and publishing social media
Our day starts off by taking a close look PR Smith's SOSTAC® Planning Framework, which is ideal for planning your social media strategy. We then take a look at social media fundamentals, such as commenting, sharing, social proof and listening. We also consider search engine optimisation and its use in social media.
Blogging has been around for quite a while and we consider how it can be used by organisations and contrasting its use with corporate websites and online PR. We consider what blogs are and analyse how organisations are using them. The platforms we consider are WordPress and Tumblr.
Facebook is one of the main platforms that we consider on this social media course. We deconstruct Facebook pages and then closely look at how organisations are using Facebook to engage, promote, tell stories, raise awareness of brands and products, and much more. We also consider the use of Facebook insights, timing and advertising (boosting posts).
Twitter is the second social media platform that we consider in detail. We start by analysing the Twitter interface from its timeline, to tweets and then exploring hashtags, follows and direct messaging. Having looked at the key elements of Twitter we then explore how organisations are using this platform and consider how they could be used by your organisation.

Video and image sharing
This section takes a look at some of the key video/image platforms being used today. We start off by looking at YouTube and get to grips with channels, types of video being created and their use by organisations (both for reach and for embedding). We then take a look at the ever-popular Instagram and consider how organisations, as diverse as GE and Maersk, are using this platform. We finish the section off by looking at Pinterest
Our approach to teaching LinkedIn differs from the previous social media platforms in that we firstly look at personal profiles and then at company pages/groups. The first part focuses on how you (on behalf of your company) can use profiles to connect, engage and inform connections about yourself and your business. The second part looks at how to maintain company pages use groups proactively.
Cardiff location (training)
Our principal training venue is located in the offices of Liberty Marketing in Cardiff Business Park, Llanishen. This location is conveniently located between the M4 (junction 32) and Cardiff City Centre, making it easily accessible from Cardiff, Swansea, Newport, the valleys and South West England. Please note on occasion our training venues may be located in Cardiff City centre (always check the events page for correct location).
