Congratulations to our CIM and CAM students

We are pleased to announce that ALL of our students have passed the exams/assessments they sat in July. Students sat the CIM Level 3, Level 4 and CAM Diploma courses. Many of the Level 3 and 4 students have now completed all modules and have gained, respectively, the CIM Foundation Certificate in Marketing and the CIM Professional Certificate in Marketing. Quite a few of our students started their CIM Level 3/4 courses in January and February and completed all modules in 6 months - something that is possible with our teaching approach and which they should be, justly, proud.

The students who submitted their CAM Diploma in Digital Marketing assignments were the last to do so (as this was the last exam board for the course) and they all passed and achieved their Diplomas.

Well done to all you. We know you have all worked hard and deserve your qualifications!

Social Media Spotlight on Fitbit

With the summer holidays over there's a good chance that you will want to shed all those excess pounds that you have gained over the last couple months. And this means, undoubtedly, that you will start looking for fitness accessories: trainers, shorts, tops and, quite possibly, a fitness tracker. If you're looking for a fitness tracker, there is every chance that you will evaluate one of the top 3 in terms of sales volume - Fitbit. So, what is this company doing in terms of social media activity?

In terms of social media Fitbit uses a number of platforms. As we can see below they are using Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, YouTube and a blog. The first two even have dedicated UK accounts. What I aim to do now this offer an overview of how Fitbit is using each of these platforms hopefully this will give you some ideas and inspiration for managing and maintaining your own social media channels.

Fitbit Blog

As you can see from the headers at the top of the screenshot, blog articles are categorised according to whether they fall into the topics of Get Moving, Eat Well, Feel Good, Be Inspired or Fitbit News. You could say the first four sections are focused on your health and well-being, whilst the last section offers you a glimpse of the latest products and apps, events and media coverage of Fitbit. A rudimentary search on Google indicates that there are over 3000 articles written on this blog (the blog has been around product launched in 2007).

Courses Tailored for Your Needs and Budget

Digital marketers who attend our courses tend to either opt for our accredited CIM courses or go for one of our one-day courses. The CIM route means that students do either two or three modules of the level 3, level 4 or level 6 the Qualifications; these are either assessment or exam-based. These obviously involved some time commitment and can be more expensive. Traditionally, students have wanted to do the full certificates or diploma.

However, we are increasingly seeing that students are requesting bite- sized qualifications which, in turn lead to awards. Why? It could be due to budget or time commitment or just that students want to focus on specific awards like digital marketing. The beauty of doing a bite-sized award is that you still end up with a recognised, relevant qualification - from CIM.

To this end we have come up with a set of packages focused on different people's skills sets and needs, which include a mixture of CIM qualifications and hands-on practical courses.

So, what are the options?

Social Video Is On The Rise – Are You Ready For It?

Social Video is, without a doubt, making huge steps forward. Regardless of the platform you are using - be it Facebook, Linkedin Twitter, Instagram or Snapchat - you will have seen a big increase in the use of video by brands and organisations over the past year or so. And if you have a good look around the Internet, you are bound to come up with stats like this (from Global Web Index) which show the amazing rise of video and, going hand-in-hand with it, a rise in the viewing rates.

People are increasingly watching video and companies need to get used to it and, potentially, change the type of content they are posting to social media. We have come through text, then video and are now in the era of video.

Last week Marketing Tom, in association with Anna Brees, launched a new course aimed at Social Media users. Our Mobile Video for Social Media course is aimed at those who are using Social Media but are aware of the limitations of their video capabilities. Our new course is designed to give students the basic building blocks from which they can start to create content tailored t the needs of their audience. Our objective in creating this course was to ensure that students could start creating their own content with just a smartphone and an application. We think our first course went well and we look forward to welcoming new people in the months to come.

Mobile Video for Social Media Workshops

We are REALLY excited to announce that from July we are are going to be running a Mobile Video for Social Media Marketing Workshop. Marketing Tom has teamed up with experienced mobile video trainer, Anna Brees, whose cv includes being a successful Broadcast Journalist working as a reporter and presenter for ITV and the BBC, a facilitator with the National Union of Journalists and who has been successfully running training courses for the past 9 months.

We plan to deliver these workshops on a regular basis from September. However, before that we are looking to run a ‘pilot’ session (or two) to see the dynamics of Anna's delivery mixed with some of our own digital marketing/social media approaches (Anna has already delivered around 30 workshops and worked with Arriva Trains and Admiral). It will very much be hands-on with plenty of time for creating and editing your own videos and will focus on creating video for social media through your mobile phone be it an iPhone, Samsung or pretty much any mobile/tablet device.

Workshop Overview

You will learn the following:

  • Advanced filming and editing skills using the native camera app and KineMaster
  • Simple animation graphic apps like Animoto and Flyr
  • Where to find free to use music, video and images
  • How to turn your phone into an autocue so you never forget what to say
  • Apps that create timelapse footage
  • How to do chroma key, green screen

The plan is to have a mixed group of people of - probably no more than 10.

Cost

We are going to slash the price from our usual £195 to £115 per delegate or 2 for £185 for this pilot course. London prices will be £215 and £345 for 2 delegates.

Google Analytics Resources

Every month Marketing Tom Media delivers Google Analytics training either as public courses (in both London Cardiff) or as in-house courses. And on our courses we often discuss resources that students may find of use. Here is a list of websites and web resources which I think Social Media, Analytics and CIM students may find of use.

Let's start with an obvious one - Google Analytics for Beginners from the Google Analytics Academy. You are able to sign up for the Academy where "you'll learn how to navigate the Google Analytics interface and reports, and set up dashboards and shortcuts". A really good resource which is driven by video.

If you don't have a Google Analytics account from your own organisation, or would just like to trial analytics, just over to the Google Analytics demo account page from where you can test drive a live website using GA. (more…)
